Partitioning CPU's

Hi,

We have a Sun v440 running Solaris 9. We have Sybase IQ running on this machine. Does anyone know if it possible to partition the CPU's? i.e. I have 4 CPUs. I am told that I could use SRM - Solaris Resource Manager.

I need to ensure that Sybase only sees 2 CPUs. This has a licensing implication as Sybase IQ is licenced by the number of CPUs.

Also, can I do this on HP machines and if what are the requirements?

On HP machines you can use either hard partitioning (npars) or soft partitioning (vpars).

npars is supported on the newer mid-range and higher HW (rp7410, rp8400, Superdome)

vpars is suppported on the rp5xxx (L-class) machines, since those do no support npars.

I can also have e.g. an rp7410 with (max) 2 hard partitions which in turn are partitioned using vpars.
