Tar Problem

I encountered some problem when I tar my files into the tape. It will return a "tar failure" 5 which is RETCODE into my log file.

The script which executes the tar command is as follow:

OUTFILE=/tmp/backup.out
tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0m /home /stand /etc >$OUTFILE 2>&1RETCODE=$?

I have more than space in the tape (24GB) to tar every files and I have try on new tapes as well.

So, what is this RETCODE=5 and how do I go about solving this issue?

Hi again,

To further refine, try redirecting stderr to
a separate log file
2>err.log instead of 2>&1
This will show you exactly what kind of warning you have.
