The error messages are related to the CD-ROM installed on your system:

You get this error when no device is connected on IDE index 1.
There are two IDE slots on your workstation. One is connected to
your CD-ROM and the second is not presently connected to a device.

These messages come from the Super I/O IDE driver while talking
to the CD-ROM. These messages are documented to appear on a
B2000 with a MITSUMI CDROM.

the appearance of side_ss() messages doesn't do any harm as the
function returns S_BUSY flag which triggers retry of the failed operation.
So it is ok to ignore the messages

Or you can install the enhancement patch:
PHKL_27224 11.00 IDE/ATAPI cumulative patch

hello,

i got the following messages in the syslog and the dmesg-error-log on a B2000-workstation with HPUX 11.0 :

Nov 11 14:58:21 vac001 vmunix: side_ss(): SIDE_STATUS_REG 0x58
Nov 11 14:58:21 vac001 vmunix: side_ss(): SIDE_ERROR_REG 0x20
Nov 11 14:58:21 vac001 vmunix: side_ss(): SIDE_SECTOR_CNT_REG 0x1
Nov 11 14:58:21 vac001 vmunix: side_ss(): Device Busy BEFORE PACKET CMD !!!

Can somebody explain me this messages?

THX!
One tech doc explain that

/*
These messages come from the Super I/O IDE driver while talking
to the CD-ROM. These messages are documented to appear on a
B2000 with a MITSUMI CDROM. No hardware changes should be made and
no other HP-UX patches will currently address the issue.

The side_ss() messages don't do any harm. The function returns
an S_BUSY flag, which triggers a retry of the failed operation.
You should ignore these messages
*/
