"The desktop messaging could not be started"
1Â° choose Ok
2Â° Failsafe mode
3Â° Check to see that the desktop is properly installed, The hostname is correct (/etc/hosts)and the network is properly configured

I already had had this screen after i've configurate the netconfig.
So i 've erase all my modifications and it doesn't work.
To add a station Unix into a Lan. what files must be modified ?
is that the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
or /etc/netconfig or both.
Sorry but i learn the unix's world since one

Hello,

/etc/hosts should have permission 444
/etc/resolv.conf should be there
/etc/nsswitch.conf should be there.

/etc/rc.config.d/netconf is the correct file, after any modificationd do not keep the old file in the same directory, move it to /tmp

If you think you need a new copy of the configuration files, you'll find them here:
/usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d
in general they are under /usr/newconfig

Use sam if you are not familiar with the commands prompt.

The problem occurs mainly due to the name resolution problems.

check
#nslookup
#nslookup

Also,
run /usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt

Also check the /var/dt/Xerrors and also $HOME/.dt/errorlog
