Appplication compiled for 10.20 will it work on 11.00?

Dear all

I have received one application which is compiled on HP-UX 10.20 and tested also by one of my S/W vender.
I wanted to test on my Server I have HPUX 11.00 on L-1000 server, Is there any harm in testing? will it be a problem? Any thing I need to consider to do this?
Or I need to get source code for 11.00 and compile again?

Can anyone suggest me to proceed this?

There's absolutely no harm in testing it, and I think you will have a pretty good chance seeing it work too.

Hi,

All 10.20 compiled applications should run without a problem on HP-UX 11. This is because HP-UX 11 contains a set of libraries that are used to guarantee 10.20 compatibility.

These libraries can be recognised by the lib*.1 names. The real HP-UX 11 libraries have names like lib*.2, so there is no overlap.

How does a binary know which library to use? Well, this information is contained in the binary, and can be looked at using the command chatr(1).

Conclusion: You should have no problem at all running your 10.20 compiled apps on 11.x.

application from 10.20 will run under 11.00.
HP-UX 11.0 is backward compatible with 10.20.
If you want your applictaion to run in 64bit mode (l-class has 64bit) you will have to recompile it.

Hi,

Your compiled application should work on 11.0 as the code compatibility is achieved between 10.20 and 11.0 but, to get the best possible performances (and use 64 bit mode) it would be better if you could recompile it.

Applications written/compiled for 10.20 should work in 11. However you should double check for PATH changes if any, and if there are some environmental variables that were previously defined in your old box that are possibly over written by your new installation.

Yes your application should work on hpux 11.0
That is what it means by binary compatible.

However, it is better to recompile it for performance reasons.

I upgraded from 10.20 to 11.00 without a problem. The two applications ran without a problem. The apps are Paragon, which runs on PRO-IV and Magnal, which uses COBOL.
