Ok, The way I see it is:

If you are doing a remote backup using fbackup, you can only use DDS or 6track magnetic...NOT DLT.

Is this correct?

10x
RPM

Why not?

The only issue at hand for HP-9000 systems is they can't share tape drives.

You can't run fbackup on machine 1 and use machine 2's drive. That applies to all drive types.

Veritas Media manager lets you share tape drives among machines.

If remote backup means log in and run a backup script then you're wrong. If it means something else, I'm confused, as explained above.

SEP

That information is wrong. You can use almost all magnetic tapes for remote fbackup (including DLT).

Hi,

Shiju is correct, remote backup is possible and there isn't a limitation on drive type.

Eg: fbackup can be run on machine a, but remotely using machine b's drive by using the fbackup -f machineb:/dev/rmt/1m syntax as per the fbackup man page.

Using fbackup remotely means that it isn't aware of the tape type, also you won't have fast search markers.

regards,

Darren.

Robert,

if there are problems then most likely due to no remsh capabilities (.rhosts file).

Regards
Bernhard
