Securetty file

In /etc dir I created file securetty. Only 'console' inside the file.

I login as a user then su - root. as root if
I type ll it display only half screen. If I
rename file securetty to securetty.bak and login as root then ll display dir listing full screen.

I'm not sure that the /etc/securetty file have any bearing with the LINES (environment variable) of the terminal.

When this occurs, type env | tee /tmp/root1 and env | tee /tmp/root2.

What is the difference between the two files?

Is this HP-UX 10 or 11? Are there any patches applied?

Albert, there is no difference between the two files. LINES=55 OS 10.20

When I su to root this is what on the screen
hostname # G: Yor are superuser !!"vt200".
the cursor is on G.

I'm sorry I meant for you to execute the env command once when the securetty file was in place, and when the file was not in place.

Is there a difference with the environment files when you are root for the two different configurations?

How can you have the LINES=55 when the termnical type is reporting vt220? The vt220 only had 24 lines (and one status line)?
