What is the current HP version of Samba and do I need the server or client. I just need win2000 to HP-UX 11.00 connectivity

HP calls its port CIFS/9000

Which you need depends on the task.

If you want full client server connection between both boxes, you need both. Samba client is built into the Windows Client. When you do a standard windows share, it should be a samba serer,though you may need to enable netbios to get that to work, I'm playing with that right now.

HP 11.00 and later comes with CIFS.
You can download CIFS server that has both server and client software.

I also should have pointed out that you can get and try and compile source code from www.samba.org

There is also a depot port(not by HP, be wary) of Samba 3.0 at this web site:

One further food for thought, after you think you've configured everything, you may still need to authenticate between your HPUX server and your PDC server. I get caught with this every time.

# smbpasswd -j -r
