Both disks were present. Now both are present at boot menu when "search" is issued, but when the system is booted up, ioscan doesn't see the second one. The boot disk is fine with scsi id 6, the one not seen has id 5.
The cause could be that I created vg01 with id 5 disk in it, and at next boot it complained vg01 could not be activated. I tried to vgremove vg01, but not successful.

Jun

Hi,

Checked cables ?

Otherwise call HP, I think your disk died.

A vgremove can not be the reason why the disk is gone.

Kind regards,
Robert-Jan

New disk/replacement disks are automatically scanned during every boot. If for any reason this is not happening you might want to try manually installing the device files for the Disks using,

insf -e -C disk

and then do a ioscan -fnC disk

-Karthik S S

The reason turned out to be the adding of a tape drive.
The search command showed all 4 pieces,
p0 c3t6 boot disk
p1 c3t5 second disk
p2 c2t1 DVD
p3 c3t3 tape drive
once system boot up, c3t5 is missing. Pull the tape drive out, it showed up.
The question is now, how can I put the tape drive in and make everything to function?

Jun

I chained the tape drive with the DVD, everything worked, leaving the puzzle unexplained.

Jun

I guess you will have to change the id number (DIP)on the tape drive. May be it's conflicting with the your second drive. on the backside of your tape drive you have this number and can be changed by pushing it up /down

-USA..
