I've not got a manual handy, but with my experience of the FC60 I can't see technically why you can't create a raid 0/1 LUN with only 2 SC10's as long as you specifiy disks in your first SC10 as the "primary" and the relevent disks in the second SC10 as the "mirror".

We just got in an FC60 with 2 SC10's. This is for our Oracle Production server. I would like to configure raid 0/1 and was wondering if this is possible. The manual only covers raid 0/1 for 4 or more SC10's. Also, do I have to use full bus configuration or is there a way to do it with a split bus configuration. It seems to me that the split bus would provide better performance because it is using 4 channels. Not an expert, that's why I need to ask. Thanks

Thanks, I know I can have a raid 0/1 but do you know about split bus as opposed full bus.

Hi Gerry,

Raid 0/1 combination is possible with your FC60 configuration.

As far your second question is concerned, you need to decide about your Bus configuration depending on the factors such as performance, redundancy, upgradability.

As per the HP docs, irrespective of the bus configuration, each controller in SC10 controls one set of disk drives in the disk enclosure (sc10) Internally.
In full bus mode, io between fc60 and sc10 pass through only one controller, so the controller of sc10/SCSI channel which is connected to fc60 fails, entire box will be inaccessible. But in case of SC10 split bus mode, both the controllers/SCSI channels are connected to FC60 and even if one controller of SC10 fails only half of the SC10 will be inaccessible.

If you plan to use more than 3 SC-10?s with the one FC-60 then SC10?s need to be in Full bus mode.
If you are looking for performance and you don?t want to use more than 3 SC10?s with your FC60, then split bus configuration would be appropriate.

HP has a very good documentation on this subject at the HP documentation site.

Regards,

Pramod

Pramod, I appreciate the response. I looked through HP docs area and couldn't find the docs you mentioned. Do you know of anyone that has 2 sc10's split bus with raid 0/1 as I would like to know how well it works. Thanks
