alternate solution for remote printing

Hello,

i need to know an alternate solution for remote printing, because it is not possible to tunnel the "traditional" way with lpr with ssh. This is a mandatory condition because the print job have to go through a firewall. And the lpr-solution use on the client-side variable port-allocation. So it is not possible to tunnel lpr with ssh over port 22 through a firewall.

Does somebody know a alternate solution?

Have a look at "cups". I'm not sure it does exactly what you want but it is extremely comprehensive and very good too. Oh, and it's free.

We need to compress it. With rlp you can edit the interface-script of the specific printer in which you compress the file with gzip und unzip it in the other interface-script. I think with ftp this wonÂ´t work, o
