Thanks Gideon, but wtmpfix does not solve the problem, rather closewtmp or utmp2wtmp create empty wtmps files but they are not properly refreshed with new data... (even though wtmp does!)

Hi,
I´m having problems with the "last" and "finger" commands, wtmp seems to be ok but wtmps is empty (I´m running runacct every night). OS version is HP-UX11iv2. This is the error with finger:
"No Entries in wtmp database"
I´ve read here:
http://devrsrc1.external.hp.com/STK/impacts/i852.html
that there are new system daemons on 11iv2, utmpd and wtmpd, anyway I have utmpd running, but don´t have wtmpd neither the binary
Any sugg

Hi,

Information that is no longer useful should be
removed periodically to prevent it from becoming too large. Also note
that wtmp and btmp are not created by the programs that maintain them.
Thus, if these files are removed, record-keeping is turned off.

check wtmpfix

Gideon
