I am trying to configure the kernel on a K580 running 11.11 for Oracle. I've done this many times. Now I am getting the following error:

Cannot build a kernel using /usr/sbin/config
(Bundled)cc: error "conf.SAM.c", line 872: error 1000
stop
Config: Make did an exit (1)
The command exited with exit code -71

The first thing that I would do is examine line 872 of /stand/build/conf.SAM.c with vi and see if anything jumps out at you.
Is there anything I can blow away in /stand. I moved vmunix.prev. I am still at 75% full, it was a lot less before I atempted to rebuild the kernel and got this error. There still must be something hanging around from the failed kernel rebuild...not sure what I can delete. HELP>>>>>

Hi,

I'm offering suggestions, but if it were me and I felt uncomfortable, I would talk to HP. I've not seen this exact problem.

It seems like maybe your /stand/build/conf.SAM.c file has gotten weird. If I'm right, possibly someone played with it or it could be a bug in SAM. There is a patch from August of last year that might be of use:

Patch Name: PHCO_28123
Patch Description: s700_800 11.11 cumulative SAM patch

This forums post might make interesting reading: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/parseCurl.do?CURL=%2Fcm%2FQuestionAnswer%2F1%2C%2C0xd442eea29889d611abdb0090277a778c%2C00.html&forumId=2&admit=716493758+1074535409201+28353475 (see erin maor's comment).

HTH
Mic

Robert,

That's a little small for /stand. About the only thing of any size in there that you can get rid of is /stand/vmunix.prev. Copy it some place else just in case, though.

Pete

Robert,

I missed that you had already moved vmunix.prev. You could try moving vmunix itself since you're (hopefully) building a new one. Just make sure you can get it back if your build fails, otherwise you'll have an un-bootable system.

Pete
