IPL error: bad lif magic

Breaking the 10 sec during boot, I can sea and see all the available boot paths.
If I do
bo p2 (CD)
or
bo p4 (tape)
I get the message in the subject, and be dropped back to
Main Menu: Enter command or menu>
The reason I try CD and tape is that I believe my boot disk became bad.
Is my E35 bad?

Hi Jun,

Do you see any activity on the tape or the CD when it is trying to boot?. Try to boot from the recovery CD and see if it works.

What media do you have in the tape drive and the CD drive when you try to boot from them? If there is nothing in the drives then they won't work. YOu must use an ignite make_tape_recovery tape in the tape drive or an HP-UX installation CD (Core OS CD *NOT* Applications CD) in the CD drive.

what is the actual problem what the problem with root harddisk.just do sea to search for the drives.and try boot from cd.

I can get to the isl if boot to disk, but /stand/vmunix couldn't be found. "hpux ll" will show only two files, bootconf and ioconf.
The tape in the drive is generated by make_boot_tape, and was used before. The CD is the first OE hpux 11.00.

It sounds like you may have other problems then. If you have a support contract, I'd call HP.

Hi,

it sounds like LIF area is bad by now.
Then boot from CD Install/Recovery O.S. and launch a recovery shell. After you search the line something like 'unbootable HP-UX system' and then you will find an interactive menu to rebuild the only bootlif area.
