Perl 5.8 install problems

I've just downloaded Perl 5.8.0 depot for 11.0, and when I try to swinstall, I get ERROR: Failed installing fileset "Perl5.PERL-MAN,r=D.5.8.0.B". Check the above output for details.
for all of the filesets. Yet, if I do an swlist on the depot, they show up fine. Any suggestions? I've tried redownloading it several times.

After downloading, did you ftp it from another machine? If so, be sure to use "binary" mode.

Yes, and I did. I know the depot is viable, or the swlist would bomb out.

The last message looks to indicate that this depot hosts both 32bit perl and 64bit perl. Did you select either of them or chose both? And if you didn't choose, are you aware that they are very different.

FWIW if the depot still does not meet your needs, you can also fetch more recent perl precompiled binaries from my site for 10.20, 11.00, and 11.11 (11i), but they are not depots, but compressed archives. These include DBI and several other useful modules.
