lvextend does not work...

On our HP-UX 11.00 server, hardware model 9000/800/L2000-36: I am trying to extend the logical volume of or /var partition. Here is what I do:

I reboot the box, and boot into single user mode. Then I execute the following commands:

# vgdisplay

I believe we have hpa fibre channel cards in the server, but the /var (or /dev/vg00/lvol8) partition is not located on a networked drive/storage... (I *think*!)

Hi Cameron,

You've got a failed disk in the vg00 mirror - c1t2d0.
Look at the vgdisplay output - it shows 2 For Current PV & *only* 1 for Active PV.

You should get it replaced & the mirror resynced before you do anything else. You lose the other disk & you're going down.

Cameron,

All the error messages are indicating that at the moment /dev/dsk/c1t2d0 is unavailable for what ever reason.

Try a:

diskinfo -v /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0

to see if the O/S can get any info about the disk in question.

An ioscan -funC disk |more

will show which controller the disk is hanging off. If it is a scsi controller, then it is unlikely that it is network based. (More servers will boot from local drives, using mirrored disks on C0 and C1)

If ioscan shows NO H/W then you have a probable hardware fault.

Are the disks hot pluggable? If so this can sometimes help. Before you do this, are you sure you've got a good backup? (A paranoid just in case).

Hot plug the disk, do an insf -e -H (h/w path of disk controller).

You may have to call out an HP engineer.

What is the output of

#ioscan -fnC disk

Can you see the missing disk

#diskinfo

Hi,

use the ioscan -fnC disk command

in above output u able to see the ur device

if u don't then u need check up connection of disk

u need to remove and re-fix the disk

and re-create the device file using the insf -e command
