I am new to hp-ux and need links to documentation. I have spent a lot of time in the AIX/Solaris/linux world, but until now, none in the HP-UX world. where do I find the HP version of IBM's redbooks or SUN's blueprints? Where do I start? I know the bhami rosetta stone, but am particularly interested in disk management, hw specific mgmnt, and install documentation as that seems to be the biggest difference between all of the commercial *NIXs. I am also interested in mirror-ux and ignite-ux. any and all direction would be much appreciated
I am particularly interested in the hardware specific gotchas also...

thanks for the links. I appreciate the assistance. where do I get the HP-UX downloads for open source/etc package (ie. gcc/samba/squid/lsof/etc?)

I was in this situation 6 years ago.

AFAIK, there is no direct correlation to Sun's blueprints. There are some whitepapers, though.

Here is IMO a must-have document:

Also, UNIX System Administration by Nemeth/Snyder/Seebass will help relate your experience to HP-UX.

There is (or was, anyway) a class titled something like "HP-UX System Administration for Experienced System Administrators."

Finally, use SAM to get going faster. When you have time, you can examine its log file to figure out what it did command-line.

HP Press publishes some interesting, but pricey books.

Between the cookbook and the N/S/S book, you should get all your answers to disk management, h/w/specifics, and installation. And if you have specific questions, feel free to post them here to the forums. I'm sure others would benefit from the discussions.

I have now built a b132l with hpux 11(dont laugh it was only $20). I have set IP/etc, but when I boot it also goes into the ISL. then I need to do a search and discover bootable devices....then I need to do a bo p0 to boot the device it found. how do I get it to automatically boot from the p0 device?
I did this:

setboot -s on -b on

is this the standard procedure?
or should I set the bootlist using the proper path to the disk?

btw, the aix/hp-ux interop doc seems to be pretty good, albeit dated

I am sure I will have more questions. thanks for your patience

You need to set the primary boot path and give it the hardware address of the disk.

On one of my machines here it would be like:

# setboot -p 8/4.5.0

Where the 8/4.5.0 is the path to the disk. You can get this path via ioscan.

# ioscan -kfnC disk
