I'm not sure you finished your message, but if your problem is that HP-UX doesn't recognize a new tape drive, I assume:

1) the correct tape device driver is enabled in the kernel?
2) you have done an "ioscan -fnC tape"?
3) you have done an "insf -e"?

Hi,

In order to connect a tape drive. You must attach the device to the right SCSI card. ( SE ) and install the stape driver. ( sam, periphicals, tape)
Connecting the tape can be done online. ( only one on the bus) installing the device driver is a reboot.

Gideon
