Hi,

Nop. I usually enable it only when I need to install a client. tftp is only to download the INDEX and other files during the install. However, if you forget to enable tftp during a client install, you may end up messing up the client.

Ignite server will need remsh access to the client if you are booting the client from the ignite server and|or if you are running make_net_recovery from the Ignite server.

But just to run make_net_recovery from the client, all you need is an exported NFS filesystem on the ignite server|or any other server. Even you can add a client without opening r-commad access.

-Sri

We are backing up few 11.11 servers onto the Ignite server using the make_net_recovery command.

Do we need to keep the tftp enabled on the ignite servers or the clients ?. (for taking care of the backup or in a case of Disaster recovery using the networked archive.)

For the make_net_recovery to work all you need on the server is NFS server enabled and the target directory exported in /etc/exports.

The clients do need a tftp connecttion, though I am told HP may be working on using sftp or scp from secure shell in the future.

We turn that on manually when a client needs to boot and then turn it off.

/etc/inetd.conf

inetd -c
reloads after the edit.

SEP

You may not need it all the time, if you are attempting to harden the system but you will need it when you are ready to use Ignite.

tftp needs acess to /opt/ignite and /var/opt/ignite which is used when booting Ignite clients.
With the B.[4|5]* versions of Ignite you _DO_ need tftp enabled on the server. make_net_recovery does a version check of the server to make sure they are in-sync. This will fail if the client running make_net_recovery cannot contact the server. With the 'C' version of Ignite, it tftp fails Ignite uses 'swlist' to check the server version.

If/When you need to use the recovery image to restore a machine you will need tftp enabled to successfully install.
