Where is this and /etc/MANPATH sourced from?
After added new paths to them, I did
. /.profile
and the new paths are not updated. I have to logout and log back in for the modification to take effect.

Jun

Those are sourced from /etc/profile.

/etc/profile is sourced first and then the user's own .profile is sourced.

Hi Jun,

/etc/MANPATH is set from /etc/profile or /etc/csh.login depending on the shell you use. Look at /etc/profile and search for MANPATH. Since /etc/profile is executed when you login, running .profile won't get them into effect.

-Sri
