Changing target directory installing a product

I just completed loading java2 1.4 (products T1456AA and T1457AA) into a seperate directory by changing the target from host:/ to host:/opt/java1.4
Now it seems that the product loaded correctly, but does not appear in the 'swlist' output at all. The previous versions 1.2 and 1.3 do still appear.

I could of course just remove the software off the system, (by deleting it) but why does it not get reported? Even if you change the target directory 'swlist' should still report the product as being on the system. Checking the latest patch summaries (software dist. cum.) does raise any actual indications of this problem.

If you are interested and give me the command lines' I'd be happy to try and duplicate your results and report back.

I have a D320 running 11i with just enough energy for the job.

Just hit me with the steps, whats gotta be in before I start and the I'll the installs your way and provide data back.

You may have discovered a flaw in SD-UX.

I'm not familiar with your systems, so this offer might be useless.

Depending on download speeds of the java products, I can do it now.

My thought about this is that eventhough you do not change the target for the installation still it would install it to /opt/java1.4.

Yes,you are right still it should show filesets.

Can you give a try as loading without changing the target.Meanwhile revert as what OS version you are running.
Might be you need latest SD patches.

Hi SEP,

The system is 11i March 2003 patch.
I run 'swinstall' interactive mode.
I change the target directory to be /opt/java1.4 so that I am sure that /opt/java1.2 and /opt/java1.3 don't get clobbered.
Install the product, which installs quite normally other than for all files being installed under /opt/java1.4 (which creates additional directories etc, var and opt (like new trees from / )
Run 'swlist -l product | grep -i java' and the new version does not get listed.
I have since removed the directory (/opt/java1.4) and re-installed using defaults (not changing the target directory) and then run the swlist command and wellah! it appears in the list .... go figure. I would have left it alone, but they wanted it installed....

Any help would be appreciated ... bored are you ??

I forgot to add that the software was loaded from the September 2003 application set. The only warning received during the install was that the /opt/java1.4 directory did not exist and would be created.

I may have the answer for you already.

I got sidetracked when i found a new Ignite version on CD 3.

But Java 1.2 1.3 and 1.4 are not designed to overwrite each other. Oracle is certified for 1.2, 1.3 but not 1.4 last time I checked a few months ago.

So there isn't overwrite built into the releases.

If this doesn't solve the issue I am on cd 4 and will fire up the install according to your original post.

My results appear consistent. There is no evidence in sd-ux that the software actually installed.

Hopefully I duplicated your methodology, though I'm now wondering how to get this sofware the heck out.

Okay,

with swremove if I change targets i can remove the software.

I don't think doing an install with target / will hurt the older javas. When I installed 1.4 on my sandbox at work it automatically installed into /opt/java1.4 and didn't stop oracle operations. I had to remove it because it broke my browser at the time, which was mozilla 1.2.1

I'll leave this software installed until I hear from you that you are satisfied with what I did.

At least you duplicated my problem, which is good. As far as getting rid of it, simply:

# rm -rf /opt/java1.4
and if you wish re-install yhou can without changing the target the same as me, which seems to work fine.
Thanks for trying, perhaps I'll log a software call with HP tomorrow and give them this thread as a link.

Hi SEP,

There is a resolution, and I have it buried in my email somewhere. I apologise for not getting back to this sooner (thanks for the reminder) but I have a rather large Informix to Oracle conversion on my plate that I cannot let out of my sight. I shall endeavour to get to it early next week.
