boot requires HFS (filesystem) to boot, not VxVM, so regardless of the disk you use, only the HFS filesystem will work.

But, you can boot from HDS (in general).

live free or die
harry

Anyone know if it's possible to setup a VxVM (Veritas VM) boot/root disks on a HDS Array, and if so, what are the steps/requirements involved in accomplishing this.
Any link to documentation?
I'd like to take advantage of the performance that the array has over the local disks.

Thanks.
J.Vidal

What I meant to say was.

Currently, my boot/root disks are under Veritas VM control on the local disks, and would like some guidance on how to copy/migrate the boot/root from the local disks to the HDS array.

Anyone know of any docs showing the procedure on how to?

You didn't indicate which HDS array you are using. I know that the XP128 and XP1024 can be used to boot HP-UX servers. You should check to ensure that your array can be used to boot a server.

What we do when we need to migrate boot/root disks is create a mirror of the original on the new disk, boot from the new mirror and remove the original.

This works fine with LVM, but I have not tried it with a bootable VxVM disk.

Another option would be to make an Ignite recovery image of the server and restore to the new boot disks.
look at the command vxrootmir and it is possible to boot from SAN disks, it may not be supported but it works :-)
