rp2405 - slow bootprocess

rp2405 - HP-UX 11.11 boots slowly:
- starting NFS client subsystem 3 minutes
- Starting maildaemon 10 min
- Start SNMP HP-UX Network Management Subagent 5 min
- Configure HP Dual Port 2Gbps/1Gbps Fibre Channel Universal PCI-X Adapter 15 min

Then to start SAM takes 2,5 min.

Any Ideas??

Check the network configuration. Is the system configured on the network. Are you able to ping outside?? Install the latest patch bundle .. that will solve most of your problems ..

Hi Bo,

The first 3 issues are almost certainly name resolution issues. Make sure you have the hostname properly in /etc/hosts & that you have the FQDN as an alias - for EX:

123.111.222.111 hostname hostname.company.com

Then make sure your network config - especially the default route are correct in netconf & that the speed settings on the NIC match the switch port.

Are you using NIS or NIS+ ? Check if NIS servers are working properly.

Hi,

if you are not using (NFS,mail,SNMP) set the flags to 0 in files nfsconf,mailservs,Snmp files, hpfcmsconf files under /etc/rc.config.d.

boot process will be smooth

ping is no problems, the system is brand new and doesn't HP install the latest patches?

NIS shall not be used and is not configured

Ravi -
we use all (NFS, mail, SNMP)

Hi (again) Bo,

What does your /etc/nsswitch.conf file contain for search order?
If you don't have one, HP-UX defaults to NIS first & if you don't have it or don't have it setup yet on this system, this could account for significant delays.
