vmunix syslog message

Hi Guys,

I am getting vmunix messages in syslog. The message is

Dec 9 17:01:14 oscar vmunix: vx_multi_bufinval3: bcount 0x800 blkno 0x6f8b2
flags 0x20808a nblks 0x1 ibsize 0x400^M

What is the meaning of this message? Is this an error message or just informational message.

Sandeep,
I would assume that it is an informational message, rather than an error message. Those messages are usually preceded by 'PANIC', 'ERROR', or some other designation if it is something to 'pay attention to'.

Judging by the text (vm_multi_bufinval3) I would guess that the message has something to do with one of your vxfs file systems. I searched the ITRC Technical Knowledge Base and came up empty. Are you using JFS3.3? Could it be a message from that?

If you have a software support contract I would be tempted to call it in. If it's nothing, oh well. If it is something to worry about, then you'll know.

Hi Sandeep,

It looked to me like the error had something to do with an Index or table. So I looked around and came up with this document. It may or may not be the answer, but it is something to check.
