Hi Gerry,

I checked on 2 different L-2000/2CPU, one installed since yesterday, the other one up since 4 days both being more than 98% idle.
Both systems show vxfsd as the first process in 'top', with cumulated time of 0:10 and 0:46 and %CPU of 0.2 and 1.0 respectively.
What kind of figures have you got?

Dan
I have an N-class with 2 440 cpu's running 11.0. There is a process called vxfsd that has spawned 58 threads and is using up a lot of system resources. Is this normal?

Gerry:

From document #KBRC00001069:

PROBLEM
Could you please provide an explanation of what the 'vxfsd' daemon does. Also, is it normal for this task to have high I/O rates?

RESOLUTION
At 10.20, VxFS had several threads that ran in a 1 by 1 thread model. The threads are as follows:

DAEMON
------
vx_attrsync_thread
vx_delxwri_thread
vx_iflush_thread
vx_ifree_thread
vx_inactive_cache_thread
vx_inactive_thread
vx_logflush_thread
vx_sched_thread

With 11.0, the 1 by n thread model was implemented. So the daemon 'vxfsd' combines all the above listed threads into one process.

Due to limitations in what HP can disclose to the public because of contractual agreements with Veritas Corp, the owner of the code for JFS (VxFS), please contact Veritas directly to obtain information about the internals of VxFS
filesystem architecture and performance:

Phone: (800) 258-8649 or (415) 335-8000
Fax: (415) 335-8050

Email:
Product Information: vx-sales@veritas.com
Investor Information: invrel@veritas.com

VERITAS Software
1600 Plymouth Street
Mountain View, CA 94043

...interesting...I'd query VERITAS with specific data.

...JRF...

I checked to see what I was getting and compared it to my other systems and they are about the same. Thanks.
