Can I take an Ignite image from a 7410 and restore it on a 7400 and/or 8400?

I know that you can't clone to a different hardware such as a keystone rp8400...

I am also fairly certain that you cant go from 7410 to 7400 b/c of the restriction related to cloning npar/vpars..

Yes.

The more different the system, the harder its going to be.

I've recenlty done a DR test taking an rp5450 server to another server. There were extra steps to deal with hardware differences that were automatically handled by Ignite.

Experiment with it.

Conservative folks often prefer to have only model-specific images.

Other folks like us try to make one image that can successfully install on most models. Less overhead.

Ignite does have scripts built in that try to make an image work on a variety of platforms. In my experience, it is best to create the image on the older model. Moving forward onto newer models seems to work better than the other way.
