Hi,

I have a question regarding configuring speeds for the SCSI controller in a rx5670 HP-UX 11.23 ia64 box. The controller is only doing 80/Mbs when it should be doing 160/Mbs. The controller is a Ultra160. We have ruled out hard being the cause of the problem. Is there anyway to change the troughput for the SCSI controller? I have found some documentation pointing me towards the BCH, but I can't find the configuration options to change the speed. Any information will help. Thanks.

Derek

Thanks

This stuff is almost always default. Sysadmins never have to mess with it.

First I'd check for a device thats forcing the scsi chain to run more slowly.

Second, I'd see if there is a bad piece of hardware involved.

Last, i'd note that you don'talways get the full throughput on testing scsi speeds. I'm wondering what the test methdology is.

SEP

All the drives on the chain are capable of doing better than 160. All hardware has been double checked. I agree. These things should be default. I'm really stumped.

Hi Derek,

Yes - I believe the command at the BCH> prompt would be SCSI
From there you can set parms for the on-board SCSI HBAs.
But keep in mind that a SCSI bus will run at the speed of the slowest device connected.
Are you sure all devices connected support & *are* configured for 160?
I'm fairly certain that most DVDs & tapes are not capable of 160...

Rgds,
Jeff

Hi Derek,

The speed of the EFI boot is limited to 80MB/s with some versions of the SCSI EFI driver. You can determine the speed that HP-UX is using with the "scsictl -c get_target_parms" command, using the disk's raw device file. The output of the command shows the maximum value, and the value that has been negotiated between the initiator and the target.
