It looks like it worked fine. I played around with the config file, and I was able to do an fbackup and frestore fine. It took 25 minutes for the backup of approx 10G and 30 minutes for the restore. Thanks for the info Clay.

-Hazem

I'm trying to find the optimum configuration parameters that I can pass through to fbackup for DLT tapes. Does anyone use fbackup to DLT tapes with the -c option in fbackup? If so, can you tell me what's in your config file? I really need to get fbackup to work properly and efficiently with DLT tapes. Without any config parms it runs fine, but it takes 4 times as long as it should. Thanks and a bunny for the person who helps me out:)

-Hazem

Thanks Clay. Actually I had seen that post before and I used the config parameters suggested by Bill. However, I got the following error messages when trying to do an frecover:
frecover(2114): read error from input device (I/O error)
frecover(2114): read error from input device (I/O error)
frecover(2113): unable to resync backup media

I figured maybe the problem is with the config parameters. Do you think the config parms are what are causing these errors and I have to tweak them somehow? I'm not sure what is causing these errors.
Thanks!

-Hazem

Bill's config settings look fine. I suspect what is happening is that the DLT is having trouble with the non-default block size but the default is much too small for good performance.

Look for and apply the latest fbackup/frecover cumulative patches for your OS.

For example, if this is 11.11 then apply PCHO_28998.

If this fails then I would reduce blocksperrecord and records by a factor of two and try again.
