What file tells an HP11i where to find a yp server?
Results of ypwhich are:

well actually "ypset" does that but it looks like you might have another issue. You have to set it up as a NIS client. The easiest way to do that (for me at least) is with sam.

Could you check your /etc/nsswitch.conf if it is adapted to use nis ?

I don't have an nsswitch.conf file. But there is an nsswitch.nis.

cp the nsswitch.nis to nsswitch.conf
