What user name are you logging in as from the console? If you happen to be using a user name that starts with a capital letter, then that will cause this behavior.

Hi,

When i connect to the server through the console, somehow all letters appear to be in CAPS. Why could that be happening? Does it have to do with terminal settings?

Thanks!

Hi,

Please check whether CAPS LOCK is pressed. If not, press CTRL-D.
In any case, you can reset the terminal by switching off, and switching it on, pressing D button. Release the button in 15 seconds. This operation sets default parameters.
The above is right for HP dumb terminal.

HTH

Normally, this indicates that you've tried to log in with caps lock on - some models of terminal will then display all characters as a \ followed by the letters on screen.

eg:

\L\O\G\I\N\:

Hi again,

Also remember check your "console" entry into /etc/gettydefs. The "stty -a" reflect the customization of this file.

For additional info:
#man gettydefs

Rgds.

Hi,

Thank you for all your replies.
The above solves after the reboot. This is a random thing and all caps appear with random connects.
I've checked all the settings and everything is well now.
I tried logging in with caps off username, so i don't think that could've caused this problem. Next time similar problem happens, I'll go over your advices once again.

Thank you again,
Asya
