Sorry, I forgot the model of it because it happened long time ago. If the 'dump' model doesn't work, can I say this printer not able to print graphical stuff while it is attaching to a HP machine?

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for your help!
However, I want to obtain a model script which is put under /usr/lib/lp/model, i.e. a printer is connected to the machine itself instead of JetDirect box.
Could you give me a clue?

To configure a local printer, you can just go to SAM:
# sam
--> Printers and Plotters
--> LP Spooler
--> Printers and Plotters

Go to 'Actions' --> 'Add Local Printer/Plotter' --> 'Add Parallel Printer/Plotter...' --> OK

Enter the 'Printer Name' and select the model script from the 'Printer Model/Interface...' button, there should have the Standard HP model script including for laserjet. Select the model of your printer which suit most.

Hope the above helps.

If your printer does not match any of those model scripts, you can try to use the 'dump' model.

After you configured the printer as local printer, you can try to print if it is able to print graphics.

Btw, may I know what's your printer model?

Sorry to barge in on this thread, but I'm very interested in this subject. We use Okidata 4300 and Okidata 5300 printers. Right now I'm just using the generic PostScript driver for them. Do you know if there are JetDirect model scripts available for non-HP printers?
Thanks.
Mike

You can only use generic model script for non-HP printers.

If you have a plotter, I think you may use model script 'dumbplot'.

And you may go to this:
'maintenance and support for hp products' --> 'technical knowledge base' --> and search for document ID: 2200172670

Hope the above helps though.
