I have a system with hp-ux 11.11 and when I try to use sam from root user, I receive the following error message :

UNEXPECTED EXIT: process LANG=C LC_ALL=C /usr/sam/lbin/samx -C -p 9629 -s users usr/sam/lib//ug.ui exited with a non-zero exit status. Sorry, you must have superuser (root) privilege to enter this program.

what is the problem ?

hi,
SAM can only be used by superuser i.e. root. in order to make SAM accessible to other user you have run SAM in SAMbuilder mode.

see man sam.

and works correctly.

Ciao guaggia,

I never saw that error before (I mean exactly that error because similar unexpected error I saw a lot of times).

Often the problem is solved by reinstalling the SAM patch (in your instance is PHCO_25870) or the latest SAM patch (it is PHCO_28123).
I would suggest you to install PHCO_28123, it doesn't require a reboot and hasn't dependencies.

Anyway the new part of the error for my eyes is:
Sorry, you must have superuser (root) privilege to enter this program.

Then I ask you:
if you sure that SAM is launched by root?
Do you launch it by an user which 'su' to root?

Please check if you have another super user in your system. It is recommended not to have more than one super user. You can check it in yout /etc/passwd and check the ids if someone has id 0.

Do you have a secured system (changed to secued mode)?

If the above does not work load the latest SAM cumulative patch and any dependencies.

The last patch is really PHCO_24118, take note about current rates of them:
PHCO_23004 (passed funtional, customer, stress and performance tests)
PHCO_24118 (passed funtional and costumer tests)

In any case, always read special intructions.
