I'm an Oracle DBA with Sys. Admin responsibilities for our new HP 9000 L class server. I need to configure ftp, but can't seem to find a HOW-TO guide (step-by-step). Any suggestions on where I could obtain a document would be of great help.

It matters whether this is the standard shipped FT. Knox FTP server with HP-UX, or the Package WU-FTP which can be added to HP-UX 11.0 (supported) and HP-UX 10.20(unsupported).

First, FT. Knox out of the box should allow FTP for all users defined in /etc/passwd, as long as they have a VALID shell!

If their is not a valid shell, or you wish anonymous access then you can dig up info in man pages for "man ftpd", or at wu-ftp.org. I use alot of wu-ftp for various reasons, but for secure rock solid supported ftpd, use FT. Knox!

If you need help with wu-ftpd, then email me and I can send you a How-to in reply. This how-to I wrote to not only cover anonymous access, but security of wu-ftpd as well.

Regards,
Shannon
