Hi,

Can I use swinstall to list/install patches and/or software directly from single network directory at HP so that we can skip the process of first downloading them seperately ?

Hi Robert,

Absolutely, that's the strongest point of the SD utilities.
We do just that. We have depot systems from which we install *everything*.
All you have to do once you place the SW on those systems is use swreg to register that SW so that client systems can see it to install it.
man swreg & swcopy for details & usage.

I'm sorry - I misread your post.
The closest thing to what you seek is CPM - Custom Patch Manager which will bundle up what you might need on an individual server basis - but you *still* have to ftp it.

What we do is install the bundles - HWE (Hardware Enablement) & QPK (Quality Pack) & then since we have numerous systems on CSS level support we get "custom" patch bundles that cover things that might be newer than the "standard" bundles. The standard bundles are available on the release CDs quarterly & HP sends us the custom bundles via ftp and/or on CD as well.

Robert,

If you use the patch database you can select all of the patches you need and their dependencies and have them sent to you as one bundle.

You then run the create patch bundle script that comes with the tarball to create a single patch bundle.

Then you install the entire bundle.

You can also take the create bundle script and modify it for your own use so that you can download all of the patches you want, and then run the script to create your own patch bundle.

Typically I'll download all of the individual patches I need into one directory, then create a depot of all of them so I can do one swinstall to install them all. This is especially useful for those patches that require a kernel rebuild.
