Hi all, my customer cannot attach to a share on hpux CIFS server. This is a new server, previous server was fine. New installation of CIFS/Samba, security files are identical. However, I have emulated customers access successfully albeit from a different domain.
I'm thinking its an NT PDC problem as my knowledge of CIFS started with thhis problem.
Cheers

Geoff, also
- i havent included printer shares as info considered sensitive....
- the NT guy has responsed, he also connected from his PC to the share successfully and he IS in the same domain as customer.
Customer to raise a Deskside support ticket as this could now be PC related even though he can still connect to original live server ok.

thanks
Ian M

Geoff et al - please accept my apologies for the customers silliness. All this time he was using the wrong password despite me asking several times upon initial outset of problem. Its a cruel world out there!. I even read the 152 page CIFS manual to get this sorted!

Ian,

Glad it's resolved.

Something you might want to test in the future, change to SECURITY = SERVER

Then set PASSWORD SERVER = NTBDC1, NTBDC2
and put WORKGROUP = NTDOMAIN

NTDOMAIN is of course the Windows Domain that your client is in, and NTBDCX is a list of Windows NT Domain Controllers.

That way, the customer doesn't have to enter a password at all....they will be authenticated based on the Windows Login (they will still need an Unix id = to their Windows id - or setup in the map file /etc/opt/samba/username.map).

Rgds...Geoff
