I've just taken up a new role as NIS & NFS administrator and wondering if anyone has any useful sites that provide tips, best-known-method, etc. The previous administrator has left and I'm desperately need of some guidance.

Hi Rosli,

I've written several white papers on NFS and they're posted on http://docs.hp.com under the "Networking and Communications" heading and the "NFS Services" subsection. I've also written a book about NFS performance that will help you tune the systems optimally once you get the initial configuration working. The book is called "Optimizing NFS Performance" and it's published by Prentice Hall.

Here are some very good books on the same topic:
a) Managing NFS and NIS by Hal Stern, Mike Eisler, and Ricardo Labiaga; O'Reilly & Associates - Makes an excellent reference guide for the many different NFS export and mount options available.

b) NFS Illustrated by Brent Callaghan; Addison-Wesley Publishing Company - Provides comparisons of NFS to other network file systems and shows, in detail, how NFS communication occurs.
