I recently migrated a server from HP-UX 11.0 to 11.11, partly to implement Shadow Passwords. I loaded the Shadow Password bundle, but when I try to invoke pwconv, I get the following message:

The system cannot be converted to use shadow passwords until the ShadowPassword product is installed.

However, if I run:
# swlist -a state ShadowPassword
ShadowPassword
ShadowPassword.ShadowPW
ShadowPassword.PHNE_23502
ShadowPassword.PHSS_26492
ShadowPassword.PHCO_28193
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27909
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27035
ShadowPassword.PHCO_28194
ShadowPassword.PHCO_28192
ShadowPassword.PHCO_28176
ShadowPassword.PHCO_25568
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27064
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27038
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27037
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27036
ShadowPassword.PHCO_25526
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27040
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27041
ShadowPassword.PHCO_27042

I have installed this bundle on other 11.11 servers without an issue. The only difference with this server is that it was an upgrade instead of a fresh install of 11.11.

I have searched the forums, and the only issue I can see was a reference to a flag that needs to be set in order for pwconv to know that the system has been upgraded.

Any clues as to how to get pwconv to work for me?
swverify \* | grep -i shadowpassword

Something is not configured. You'll probably need to swremove shadow password and reinstall. Then you'll probably have to reinstall all the patches.

SEP

Hi,

I would have expected to see the word "configured" in the output from swlist -a state. I'd be tempted to remove and reinstall it as suggested earlier.

regards,

Darren.
