Creating kernel failure

Hi,

I tried installed HP 10.20 from tape.
Everything was running well to the creating new kernel.

There was failure.

config : made did an exit (1)

I don't have knowleadge about this.

It sounds like your tape was corrupt. Is this an original HP core tape?

Hi,

yes, it's orginal HP tape.
But there may be problem with reading from DDS2. Is it possible ??

Hi Radim,

I hope you have either another tape or a CD-ROM because this one looks to be corrupt.

If it's an original HP core tape, you could ask for a replacement.

There's not much you can do about this, unfortunately.

Reading a dds1 tape (the core tape) on a dds2 drive is fine, so it won't be that.

As already suggested, try another tape (or cd if you have one).

Radim,

Another thing you could try: use a tape cleaning cartridge in your DAT drive.

I've had this a couple of time in the past that a 'corrupt' tape could be read again after cleaning the drive. The tape wasn't corrupt at all but the drive head was dirty...

Worth trying anyway. Most of us underestimate the need for cleaning, including myself. :-(

I have cleaned DAT drive , changed tape and
from this moment I can work.
I was blind concering cleaning ... :-))
