Signon loop

I ran a network config script and made a mistake that the script didn't allow me to backup and correct. Normally, I would exit the script, the system would reboot, and the next time I ran the script it would replace the "old" info with the "new". This time, the system rebooted and it wouldn't let me log in as root. It takes the password without any error message and loops me right back to the log-in window.

C3600, HP VUE, HP-UX 10.20

Sure could use some help.

It looks like there was an "issue" with the VUE Signon window. I have no idea why the bad ip address &/or system name would cause the sign-on loop. Anyway, in the Signon window below user name & password, there are options like "OK", "Options". I selected "Options", "No Windows", and the system kicked out and allowed me a Signon as root. I ran the net_config script and fixed the configuration mistake, and that was it. All is well again.

As soon as I saw "No Windows", I knew Gates was at fault, and No Windows was the cure ;-)

A bad IP address will almost ALWAYS cause you grief with X-Windows. X-Windows relies heavily on networking and proper name/ip address resolution. If the machine can not correctly resolve it's own name/ip address then you will see the exact symptoms you describe.
