Is the LAN card an HP JetDirect card? If not, do not use SAM's network printer choices, add the printer as a "remote printer". If so, can you telnet to the card by IP address? If you can telnet to the printer, use / to show all the parameters. The card may not have the right subnet mask or router address.

If you have,

use addqueue, see with addqueue -l|more wath for type you use.

then use addqueue -i 267 (example) -q printer_name -x IP_adress (options see manual)

My guess is that this is not a HP printer.

If you are able to ping the printer, keep going in the jetadmin software. Next step it will try to ping the printer.

This error is showing up because it does not have SNMP capabilities similar to HP printers.

jetadmin will spit out errors saying that you may have trouble but continue to configure the printer if you have connectivity. Once the configuration is complete you can test the printer to ensure it is functioning.

Another gotcha will be selection of the model script. You may have to select a couple of different ones until you find one that functions correctly with the non-HP printer.
