Previously, this Epson's dfx8000 printer is connected to the Digital Alpha server. Now, i want to connect this printer direct to the new HPUX 11.00 server but so far still unsuccessful. Can i do that without adding extra hardware? Could anyone please help me with this? Thanks.

If this is a parallel printer, does the HP hardware have a parallel port to hook up the printer? If so, connect and add the printer to the OS using SAM.

If not you can pick up a jetdirect box for relativately cheap (under $100) and make this a network printer. There may be newer solutions out there as well.Once a network printer add to the system like all other network printers. The previous posts direct you to good info.

Hi Joe,

Do you want to connect this printer as a parallel printer or LAN attached? If there is a parallel port on the HP server then you can use a printer cable (centronic) to connect to Epson printer. Else, you have to connect using the LAN. in either case, you then use SAM to configure the printer.
Good luck
Sam
The model is 9000/800/A500-7X. Previously, the support center at my area told me that this HP rp2470 does not support the parallel port anymore. Any idea? Thanks a lot guys.

The only way to use this printer with your server is to attach the printer to LAN. Your Epson printer may have internal LAN print server or you can use HP external JetDirect print server.

Regards,
Zygmunt
