Sounds lame I know but I've tried everything I can think of...here's the scenario:

I have a HP 9000 workstation with external SCSI Toshiba cdrom. I just fresh installed HPUX 11.00 onto the workstation from the cdrom. No problems there, just boot from alternative source and run the install. Then I needed to install some additional software once the base OS was on there. There are 3 disks in ioscan -fnC disk and /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 is my cd. BUT when I "mount /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /whatever" I get the error "Unrecognised file system"...hmm!

I thought it might have been that the device was missing a SCSI terminator so I got one and stuck it on there...no change.
The cd media is fine because I mounted and read it on a wintel machine and my sun box. I tried other good media in the HP box but still the same message. I tried the mount -F cdfs option....nada!

Please help

Is this a HP Applications CD or some other type? The fact that you can read it on a wintel machine leads me to believe that it's a windows format and you're going to have to use pfs_mount or apply the RockRidge extension patches.

I'll quote from Merijn's faq at his website (or it's mirror, that is) http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/

" *

Do not use pfs_mount!. Install the Rock-Ridge extension patches instead and never worry about these problems. For HP-UX 11.00 you will need forget all about PFS and install PHKL_26448 (now superceded by PHKL_28060), PHCO_26449, and PHKL_26450 to have HP-UX recognize those file systems automatically on mount! For HP-UX 11.11 (11i) you need PHCO_25841, PHKL_26269, and PHKL_25760 (now superceded by PHKL_28025).

No need thereafter to use -o cdfs to mount anymore, provided you enter the CD drive in /etc/fstab like this:

/dev/cd0 /cdrom cdfs ro,rr,noauto 0 0"

Pete

OK Guys,

This CD is the Applications CD disk 4 of 5. I want to install the DCE Kernel Threads. I have tried to simply run swinstall and Find local CD and it quickly "homes in on" SD_CDROM directory and then says "no media in there" and that's it. There's nothing wrong with the media, I'm quite certain and I don't think there's much wrong with the drive seeing as I've installed the OS from it and can boot from it...ergo something in the OS is tripping me up.

In that case, forget RockRidge extensions (for now, anyway). Run your swinstall with the -s option: "swinstall -s /cdrom" and see what you get.

Pete
