hi selva ,

I can't able to understand why u want to store the system backup in the same server .

The second one is good thing to do .you can take the system backup and store in the box2 internal hardisks . by using command
make_net_recovery . for that you have to configure box2 as ingnite server.you can change the defaultt directory for archived backup files also.

All the best

ram

Hi experts,

Good evening..
I am new to iginite server configuration and client boot procedure etc.

First question: Is it possible to perform full system backup (make recovery command) of box1 (L2000 Hpux 11.00) directly to their internal hard disks instead of using backup tapes?

Second question: Is it possible to perform full system backup of box1 (L2000 Hpux 11.00)to the internal disks of box2(L2000 Hpux 11.00)

If 1st & 2nd questions are applicable, how do I restore boot image and archive files from the backup directory. I want detailed restore procedure for both situations (box1 backed up in box1 and box1 backed up in box2).

Your quick reply would be highly appreciated.

thanks and have a great day !
Question 1 -- It may be possible, but not adviseable. If the box were to crash, and your backup is on that same box, you can't recover.

Question 2 -- Yes that is entirely possible.

To set up and configure I would advise a read through the Ignite/UX Administration Guide.

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/B2355-90837.pdf

I am a little concerned about your reference to "full system backup".

Ignite is recommended for operating system (vg00) only. It will successfully backup apps software, but fbackup and Data Protector are much better for that job.

Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)

As others have said - don't store backup on same server...

For second - yes - setup an ignite server - then run a:

/opt/ignite/bin/make_net_recovery -s SERVER -x inc_entire=vg00

where SERVER is hostname of your ignite server.

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90837/B2355-90837.html

Rgds...Geoff
