Though you have removed the /workspace filesystem and corresponding LV the physical disk still belongs to vg01 that is the reason why you are not able to pvremove.

To confirm this do a strings on /etc/lvmtab and you'll see that disk still in /dev/vg01, so first confirm that there is no more LV configured on that disk bu using pvdisplay and then do a vgreduce to remove that disk from /dev/vg01 and then you'll be able to do a pvremove

Cheers
Rajeev

Ok I removed a filesystem called /workspace that was in vg01. There are other filesystems in vg01.

I want to use the 2 disks that were for /workspace.

I removed the lvol and /workspace.
Now I dont see the disks as 'unused' in sam.
So I ran a pvremove /dev/rdsk/c4t0d1.
Error message says /dev/dsk/c4t0d1 belongs to vg01, cant remove.

You can see my bdf listing in a previous post a few posts behind this one.

is this because the /workspace and the other vg01 lvols that I dont want to touch, are striped?

Hi Robert,

YOu will have to remove the PV from the VG before you can do a 'pvremove' on it.

1. Make sure there are no more LVs on this PV.

pvdisplay -v /dev/dsk/c4t0d1 |more

You shouldn't see all extents free. If not, then you will have to move/remove LVs out of that PV.

2. Once the PV is free, remove it from the VG

vgreduce vg01 /dev/dsk/c4t0d1

3. Create a fresh PV on this disk.

pvcreate -f /dev/rdsk/c4t0d1 (you don't need to run pvremove as -f will take care of wiping out old structures)

Use it to do whatever you want.

If the some of the PVs are striped with this PV as one of the disks, then you cannot take this PV out of the VG.

-Sri
