lvcreate problem

Hi,
We have created logical volumes without stripe option. But now we want to stripe that lv on 8 PV's (-i option in lvcreate). Can I change it online because it's a production lv.

You can not do that online. You will have to take the backup, destoy the LV and then re-create it with -i and -I options and restore the data.

This can be changed online in the sense there need to be an outage to remove and recreate the logical volume( a backup is required for this).

You have to wipe off your existing LV and then re-create the new one using desired policy option. You cannot do it online policy change.

This is the situation where Veritas volume manager has upper hand.

In LVM you can not do this online but in VEritas volume manager you can do it online.

In your case take backup recreate volume with new defination and restore data.

No - you can not change it online....

You will have to either, back it up, blow it away, recreate it, then restore...

Or create a new vg and lvol, then copy the data from old non stripe lvol to new striped lvol...
