Hi,

No. It's part of OS and it's very easy. You will need to prepare a 'psf' file with all the details and run 'swpackage' against it to create the package.

Look at 'man swpackage' and 'man 4 swpackage' for more information. There is also good documentation on SD-UX at docs.hp.com.

-Sri

Hello,

Hopefully a straightforward quesion.

I need to create some software depots to improve management of software installs.

My question is - do I need an addional license to use the software packaging tools? I recall software distributor requiring one, but that is someyears back and I never used it in 'anger'.

Systems are all PA-RISC, 11.11 64bit, Enterprise OE.

Regards and TIA,

Tony.

There is a FREE HP tool to assist creating Software Distributor depots.

Software Package Builder
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=SwPkgBuilder

Software Package Builder (SPB) provides a visual method to create and edit software packages using the HP-UX Software Distributor (SD)
package format. The SPB graphical user interface (GUI) provides a
window into the software package structure, showing attributes that
can be set for each package element.

You can use this tool to create/view/edit SD Product Specification Files
(PSFs), and then either create directory depots later using swpackage
or create serial (depot in a file) depot from within SPB (using
swpackage).

SPB can also open depots and display the attributes an package
hierarchy.

If you have in-house software that you would like to distribute in
SD format, or have 3rd party software that you would like to wrap
in SD format this tool can help you.
