topic Failed to initialize. Status = -3 in Operating System - HP-UX

I'm working on an L class that won't boot up. Booting from the primary returns "Failed to initialize. Status = -3".

A "sea" shows three devices, a "sea ipl" comes back with an error, alert level 7, and "source = 0 unknown". The fault light turns on and stays on whether the boot disk is inserted or not (though that might be because it only has two fans).

What I've read suggests a problem with the disk or SCSI card. I tried removing the boot disk and reseating, removing the disk altogether, and unplugging the fibre connection to the SAN.

Any other ideas?
Hi Lee,

I am afraid you will need HP support for this. Call HP support.
You could go the service processor and take a look at the errorlog.
( <CNTL> select sl and select errorlog)

Regards,

Gideon</CNTL>

This document discusses the entry_init failures:

UXDNKBRC00001016

The meaning of -3 is:

Can not complete call without error.
An error of unknown type prevented the call from completing correctly

This is usually a HW error or power up inconsistency.

So power down the cpu
Power down the disk.
Power up the disks.
Power up the CPU

If it doesnt boot, then log a HW call with HP.
