    <description>Hi Bill,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It looks like your not accessing the tape. try using tar xvf /dev/rmt/0m (directory)&lt;BR /&gt;or in which drive the tape is located. &lt;BR /&gt;(for instance /dev/rmt/1m.)&lt;BR /&gt;Hope it helps you along.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Wim&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>While trying to restore a file from a backup tape, I type in the following command...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# tar -xv (directory)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I then get this error:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Tar: blocksize = 2&lt;BR /&gt;directory checksum error&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;What does this mean, and how do i get around it to recover my file?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Hi..&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Voss has given correct information and use  &lt;BR /&gt;"ioscan -fnC tape" command and find out how many tape devices are available in the system with device files.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Use&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#tar -xvfb 2 /dev/rmt/0m ( This Xtract the contents,If you get error,That means problem with ( you might have taken by using ./ or /directory)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Don't give the directory try with out that If it works then use directory.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;suren.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Could it be possible that your tape was not written with the tar command?  When a tape is created with cpio, then tar complains with a block size error.</description>
