Following Sanjay, we are also assuming that u have a scsi card and not a 4si if you do, you need to go through the irm menu, just to reconfigure your disk and run a different command in order for your server to see the disk.

See the attached document.

Hi,

Pilgrim seeking advice. I have a defeective disk that is used by one volume group, two logical volumes. One lv contain data and is mirrored but LV status shows available/stale. The other lv is not mirrored and is used for paging. I am trying to put together a procedure to follow to replace the disk. Any advice/suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi Jay,

Even the other lv on this disk should have been mirrored.

1.) pull the disk out,
2.) wait for a few minutes
3.) put the new disk in
4.) Do ioscan to check that the disk is seen by the system
4.) do "vgcfgrestore -n vg_name /dev/rdsk/cxtydz"
5.) then do "vgchange -a y vg_name" to activate the disk
6.) Then do "vgsync vg_name" to sync the lvs.

Here is a doc from itrc which explains the whole procedure in details and different scenarios. You should have a hp support contract linked to your id to view this doc.

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000073905420

The doc id is KBAN00000347.

Hope this helps.

Regds
Of course we are assuming that we are talking about a external / internal standalone disk which is not part of a array. And that the disk is hot-swappable. If this disk is not hot-swappable, you need a downtime to do the replacement.

Thanks
Sanjay
My bad, the drive in question is part of a Jamaca drive array, under HPUX 11i.

Your disk array is hot swappable, then you can follow the steps Sanjay provided, ioscan -fnC disk to make sure the server sees the disk, vgcfgrestore, vgchange, vgsync.
