Diagnose I/O Error 5 on CD

I tried three times to swinstall IGNITE/UX from a local CD-ROM drive. The first time, the SAM session hung after 60% of the software loaded. The next two times resulted in I/O Error 5 in the swagent log on the same two filesets on both attempts. I don't know whether I have a bad CD or a bad CD-ROM drive. I looked in syslog but found no error messages. How do I diagnose it. Thanks.

Well if you were having an I/O hardware problem, then more than likely you would see a message in your syslog.log file.
So I'm guessing it's the CD. Can you get another CD with Ignite_UX on it and retry....?

/rcw

I've had problems in the past with software installs hanging. Do you have GlancePak installed? If so, then try doing a

# /sbin/init.d/mwa stop
# swagentd -r

then try to install Ignite/UX.

If you don't have glance, then at least try to get your system down to a bare minimum of services running and try the install again.

HTH,

Jim

I have Measureware running. I will stop it and try swinstall again. Has it been known to cause swinstall problems?

The first time I had problems with hanging installs, I called HP Tech Support, and the first thing they had me try was to shutdown MeasureWare and try again. I never got a detailed reason as to exactly what was conflicting though.

I shutdown Measureware and even rebooted. I still get the same two errors in the same two files:

ERROR: File "/cdrom/Ignite-UX/BOOT KERNEL/opt/ignite/data/INSTCMDS": I/O error (5). Cannot copy it to file "/opt/ignite/data/INSTCMDS".

ERROR: File "/cdrom/Ignite-UX/FILE-SRV-10-20/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.10.20/SYSCMDS": I/O error (5).
If you do not have another CD handy go to http://software.hp.com/products/IUX/downloads.html and download the latest version. This way you know you will be getting the very latest version available.

Since I don't have another set of CD's, I will download IUX and install from there. At this point, I think/hope the problem is the CD rather than the CD-ROM drive. Thanks Jonathan, Patrick, and Rita for the help.
